More Than a School, A Support System

At Green Valley Montessori, we don’t just teach children, we get to know them. As a family-owned, independently run Montessori school, we’ve built a place where your child is never just a name on a roster. We get to know your whole family with support and guidance every step of the way.

Started by a Family Who Believed in Montessori

Sangi Krishnaswamy watched Montessori shape her own girls. So she trained, earned her AMS credential, started teaching in 2003, and opened a small school in Urbana in 2007.

By 2012, the school had outgrown its walls. The family moved it four miles down Route 355 and gave it a new name: Green Valley Montessori. Over the years, our philosophy has remained the same: children learn best when they’re trusted to explore, and taught by someone who genuinely knows them.

Since opening, around 800 families have come through our doors. Most of them found us the same way: another parent told them.

Our Founding Family

Ms. Sangi

Ms. Sangi is our founder and director. She holds a master's degree in communications and English, plus her AMS Montessori credential. She has taught the method since 2003 and is on site every day.

Mr. Deva

Mr. Deva, her husband, ran IT teams at one of the biggest banks in the country for 30 years. Now he runs ours: finance, admin, and the front door. He is here every day, too.

Our Mission

To provide young children with a superior learning environment using Montessori methods that nurture them intellectually, socially, and emotionally, so they grow up with a genuine love of learning and become the leaders and citizens of tomorrow.

MSDE-Validated For Your Confidence

Not every school that calls itself “Montessori” has earned the right to. Green Valley Montessori is validated by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) as a Montessori school, a distinction that requires real verification, not just a name on the sign.

Teachers Who Are Truly Montessori-Trained

Every teacher at Green Valley Montessori holds full AMS (American Montessori Society) certification, the U.S. equivalent of a four-year degree, and our Primary lead teachers hold graduate degrees on top of that. Just as important, our teachers stay: many have been with us for 5 years or more, so your child learns from someone who knows them well, not someone new every fall.

Our classrooms follow the authentic Montessori method: hands-on materials, child-led pacing, and teachers who guide rather than direct. It’s how your child builds real independence, real confidence, and real academic skills, all at the same time.

An App & Updates So You Know Your Child is On Track

Through the Tadpole app, you’ll get real-time photos, notes, and updates from your child’s classroom. Twice a year, we host Parent Education Nights to walk you through exactly what your child is learning in the classroom, and you’re always welcome to sign up to audit a class and see it for yourself.
